2019 Year of the Boar

According to the Chinese Zodiac, on February 5, 2019 (by the Chinese calendar year 4717) we enter the Year of the Earth Boar.

In Chinese culture, a pig is the sign of wealth and therefore the Year of the Pig is considered fortuitous. Once muddy waters become clear, the Boar transitions from a lethargic mode to an unassailable all-or-nothing "charge ahead" focus, fueled by unstoppable strength and untiring determination. It is a time well-suited to thoroughly cleaning up the pig pen at home, and the advancement of women to positions of power in the senior corporate and political arenas may prove to be an asset in this task. Giving much needed attention to issues regarding finance, education, employment, and health care will be paramount.

The Year of the Boar is one of self indulgence, with a fixation on always having the best of the essentials: luxury in immediate surroundings as a means of self-pampering, and assurance of an undeniable right to taste the good life. The Boar's lugubrious disposition does not lend itself to a rash, spur-of-the-moment decision-making style, but would rather tend to indicate a Year of back and forth wealth instability.

Fortunes made will be a product of careful, pre-planned choices, taking advantage of the lolling momentum and confident application of knowledge foraged from past years of dedication, endurance, trials and failures. It is a Year to read more, learn more and research new projects thoroughly, to consider the unparalleled long-term effects of new ideas on nature and the environment.

Those contemplating commerce stemming from the utilization of natural elements, hybrid and other alternative fuels, and inventions for the hi-tech sector are likely to meet with great success. For corporate mergers to be successful, the melding of the old with the accelerated new by finding ways to motivate the inert-prone Boar will be vital. It is a Year where a practical, logical and down to earth approach, that embraces the all-important quest to "keep-it-simple and user-friendly" will be the most valuable tool to market products profitably.

Although business during the Boar Year is marked by much pessimism, self-doubting, suspicion and wariness of being fattened for the kill, a sense of goodness and faith in fellow man, combined with optimism, will prove advantageous when introducing new concepts to those of different views and cultures. The broad spectrum of anthropology, antiques, fine art, classical music, quality social interactions for charitable causes, as well as astounding literary works will be prominent points of controversy and interest throughout this Year.

However, international and domestic progressive and conservative convictions will run strong, and the stubbornly opinionated will demand we be flexible, tolerant and understanding at all times.

People born in the Year of Boar (1911, 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007) are said to always fly the banner of quiet sincerity and purity, exercising absolute honesty with no left, right or retreat pathways. An absolute straight dealer, the Boar seldom accepts compromise, and only when backed into the corner of the pen does a tremendous, inner, unstoppable, fortitude emerge. If there is work to be done, they will get it done, halfhearted attitudes are completely unacceptable, it's all or nothing! It is the Boar's all-around goodness and contagious cheerfulness that enables him to involve others without having to beg for favors.

Successful in careers in which they can be their own bosses, the Boar makes an excellent and inspiring teacher, or a great social worker, fund raiser, or event organizer. With an eye for detail and lavish extravagance, they are also good at dealing in art objects, antiques and precious stones. Always chivalrous, gallant, obliging, sincere, sensitive, caring and scrupulous to a fault, they are irreplaceable assets in any customer service business.

The Boar doesn't talk much, but when it does, you had better listen. Their great thirst for knowledge is basically limited to the superficial, but to offset this they join clubs, host parties and attend social gatherings with zeal and childlike simplicity, never missing an opportunity to fulfill a fascination with the extravagant. They are considerate, honest, sincere, naive, and optomistic.

The Boar likes to live in relative affluence and enjoy the pleasures of life, verging on tendencies of gluttony and gorging (perhaps resulting in a pot belly?). A warning that their short tempers are on the point of eruption is shown by much bristling and snorting, but they dislike arguments and bickering, so they will sometimes defensively retreat, often resulting in being taken for granted. They take up the burden of others, supporting the whole cast, while remaining in the background as the unique team player they are.

However, when the Boar leaves us, it is without pomp or circumstance, as it has no wish to rub salt into wounds. It is only then that we realize how dependent on it we were. It is their naivety, innocence, and their believing others without question that renders them vulnerable when in a position of making critical decisions; they are easily duped, easy prey for the unscrupulous, putty in the hands of swindlers, and too shy to ask for help in fighting back.

Often deceived, often disappointed, often made a fool of, they are disarmed by the bad faith of others, and will be in denial for years before admitting the betrayal of trust, even with irrefutable evidence. They accept their own faults calmly, tolerate those of others, and expect others to forgive their weaknesses. These qualities can often bring out the best in others, and bring good fortune to the Boar in the process.

Famous Boar people: Julie Andrews, Woody Allen, Lance Armstrong, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, David Bowie, Maria Callas, Hillary Clinton, Snoop Dogg, Duke Ellington, Missy Elliot, Henry Ford, Ernest Hemingway, Alfred Hitchcock, Hubert Humphrey, Andrew Jackson, Elton John, Henry Kissinger, John D. Rockefeller, Mitt Romney, Jada Pinkett Smith, Edward Snowden, Emma Thompson, Justin Trudeau

Best Wishes for a healthy and rompingly successful Boar Year!
