Situated in the humid southern tip of Kyoto where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers converge, Yamazaki has some of Japan's softest waters. Besides the nearly 100 year old Suntory distillery, it is also the place where the famed hermit, Sen no Rikyu, perfected the Japanese Tea Ceremony in the 1500s. In addition to the water, its unique variance of climate is perfect for Suntory’s signature cask aging, the “Suntory Maturation.”
With only 16,000 bottles of the 25 year old whisky on the market, you can get 750ml for a mere $4,000.
Perhaps if Suntory had given Bill Murray some of this premium whisky during the movie’s comical ad scene, not so much would have been Lost in Translation…
